When Italian tailoring meets traditional Chinese silhouettes : Inside Max Mara’s show in Shanghai’s long museum

About Max Mara Max mara is famously first Italian fashion house to embrace ready-to-wear by applying industrial manufacturing to haute- couture-level pattern making. To manage the scale of their 37 sub-brands and diverse product line they partner with external companies for categories outside of their core apparel to produce on their behalf. 75 long years of Legacy Max Mara’s event celebrated the house’s 75th anniversary , by launching a massive , immersive archive exhibition titled “The Max” , it unveiled its “Kinetic Chic” Resort 2027 collection showcasing brand’s heritage and its future. The Resort 2027 collection was subtle homage to Chinese culture , featuring quilted silk jackets ,cheongsam-inspired knitwear, and classic styles punctuated by “Max Mara” red . the presentation brought the company’s Reggio Emilia archives to life. The Resort Collection The collection brings back classic graphic elements from the Max Mara archive with a fresh and modern approach. Stripes, geometric patterns, and clean shapes add a sense of movement throughout the collection, presented in shades of camel, cognac, khaki, champagne, black, white, and the brand’s signature red. Bright pops of colour and subtle paillette details add unexpected highlights, bringing energy to the otherwise refined and balanced looks. Tailoring remains at the heart of the collection. Coats feature relaxed volumes and easy movement, while jackets range from neat boxy silhouettes to more sharp and structured designs. Skirts combine softness with structure, falling above the knee or to the calf with a clear sense of shape. Cropped flat-front trousers reveal ankle-strap shoes, highlighting the collection’s focus on balance, movement, and well-defined proportions. What is kinetic Chic Kinetic Chic is described as clothing that looks sophisticated while also emphasizing motion, fluidity, and ease. Garments are often designed to move beautifully with the body through flowing fabrics, thoughtful tailoring, dynamic silhouettes, or details that create visual movement as the wearer walks.
